NAWA is an active organization with two main goals. We want to make a difference in the lives of women and children in Ghana as well as foster a sense of community among the North Americans living in Ghana.
Who are we?
Our membership consists predominantly of women working in Ghana with diplomatic missions, businesses, and ngo's; and women who have joined their partners in Accra on similar work assignments.
To make it possible to serve our members and the community, we rely on the revenue from the sales of our book “No Worries! – an Indispensable Guide to Living in Ghana”, and membership fees (GHc 30 annually). The membership season runs from September through August.
What do we do?
The Association’s mission is two-fold:
1. To provide social opportunities for camaraderie, culture, and the sharing of interests among members;
2.To give financial and material support to community groups all over Ghana, particularly those helping women and children.
Currently, our membership fees cover the operating expenses of the club. The money needed to support our charity projects is raised through our book sales. “No Worries! – an Indispensable Guide to Living in Ghana”, is published by NAWA. This book provides everything a newcomer to Ghana might want to know about visiting or living in Ghana. The information in the book – insights, tips and local businesses addresses- comes from our members’ years of experience living in Ghana. The book is for sale in bookstores, supermarkets and hotels. It is also available on-line at
www.noworriesghana.com.
NAWA’s program team plans regular events in an effort to bring together the North American community as well as other friends. Whether you enjoy community theatre, looking for bargains at a flea market or celebrating Thanksgiving with friends, NAWA has the event for you.
